Holm Oak (Quercus ilex)

You are buying 1 organically grown Holm Oak (Quercus ilex) plant in a 2 litre pot.

Please note:
Potted plants are available year-round. We always aim to process orders within two days, however there may be unavoidable delays in despatch during extreme weather, so please be patient.

Organically and sustainably grown in our forest garden here at Poet’s Acre, located in the heart of 1000 acres of organic farmland and ancient woodland in rural North Norfolk. Plants are grown as part of a sustainable management plan that encourages diversity and resilience. The land here is completely organic, we do not use pesticides or sprays of any kind.

Plant Care

Your Holm Oak will arrive in a 2 litre pot with a well-established root system, ready to plant out at any time of year. On arrival, water the plant if the compost feels dry. You may pot it on into a larger container for further growth, or plant directly into its final position.

Choose a sunny or lightly shaded location with well-drained soil. Dig a hole slightly larger than the pot, gently remove the plant, and place it in the hole at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Firm soil around the roots and water thoroughly. Space 3–5m apart for hedging or woodland planting.

Holm Oak is drought and coastal tolerant once established and needs little pruning other than shaping when young or maintaining as a hedge.

Postage & Packaging

Price includes postage, and we send all our plants by Royal Mail 48 with tracking. We aim to post items within 2 working days of your order, weather permitting. We use as much recycled material for packaging as possible.

About Holm Oak (Quercus ilex)

Holm Oak is a large, evergreen oak native to the Mediterranean. Reaching 20m or more, it has dense, dark green foliage resembling holly leaves when young. It is valued as a long-lived specimen tree, hedge, or coastal shelterbelt.

Garden Uses

Ideal for shelterbelts, hedges, or as a grand specimen tree. It is particularly suited to coastal gardens and exposed sites.

Wildlife Uses

Provides year-round cover for birds and small mammals. Mature trees support acorns which are a valuable food source for wildlife.
